You will begin your eight week taxidermy training with the Bird portion of our course. Birds are a primary part of a successful taxidermy studio. Turn around time is quick, expense is low, and equipment needed is minimal. This section of the program takes approximately 80 hours.
Each student will mount 4 birds (2 upland game & 2 waterfowl). Because taxidermy techniques vary a little between upland game & waterfowl, it is important to do both species. If however, a student wishes to do a turkey or a goose as one of their birds, then only 3 birds will be required.
Custom habitat scenes will be incorporated into each mount.
During the Bird portion of the course, students will learn to:
- properly measure specimen,
- check condition of plumage,
- skin,
- degrease,
- mount, and
- apply finishing techniques.
