Fish taxidermy is the most artistic section of the program. It is important to master fish, as the "average Joe" can spot a poorly mounted fish much more readily than any other type of mounted taxidermy. After completing the fish taxidermy portion of our course, you can be confident that your mounts will be true works of art! This section of the taxidermy training program will take approximately 80 hours to complete.
Each student will mount 4-6 fish. Both cold and warm water species are required. With the increasing popularity of catch & release fishing, we recommend each student include a fiberglass reproduction as one of their fish mounts.
During the Fish portion of the course, students will learn to:
- properly measure,
- skin,
- flesh,
- degrease, &
- tan fish, in addition to
- custom mannikin carving,
- mounting,
- drying,
- finishing techniques, and
- airbrush painting.
Habitat scenes will be created to add a finishing touch and to further enhance that lifelike appearance.
